How teachers respond to children’s tattling behaviors is likely to have an effect on how children talk to, and about, each other. Ingram and Bering () found that preschool children who tattle frequently are more likely to be relationally aggressive, and yet teachers’ responses to tattling tend to be positive rather than negative. The same thing is true of the other half of conflict and resolution. It is important to know when a conflict is really solved. Violent behavior in children and adolescents can include a wide range of behaviors: explosive temper tantrums, physical aggression, fighting, threats or attempts to hurt others (including thoughts of wanting to kill others), use of weapons, cruelty toward animals, fire setting, intentional destruction of property and vandalism.
Violence among children and youth is a public health problem, worldwide. Every day, worldwide, an estimated children and youths (age 0–19 years) die as a result of interpersonal violence, and for each death many more are hospitalized with injuries.
Poor social skills, low academic achievement, impulsiveness, truancy and poverty. Whether children hit because they are angry or bite for reasons you just don't understand, aggressive behavior can be a normal part of child development. Usually, if a child receives consistent negative consequences for aggression—and learns new skills to improve his behavior—aggression begins to subside during the preschool years.
Children are not born knowing how to settle disputes or even share and get along with their peers. As an early childhood educator, you can teach them the skills and provide the tools they need to work, play and generally be around other little ones.
